Be a Remote Tutor – You Can Do This

You’re probably reading this from your home.

Pairs are not meeting. Classes are not meeting and we are on standby. Since we’re not certain when we will be meeting in person again, I encourage you to continue to tutor your student remotely.

We are all different. Different teachers with different teaching styles. Unique students with individual learning paths. During this time, we should be as creative as possible.

We do not want our students to lose what they have worked so hard to gain.

If they do not continue to learn, it will make it that much harder for them to return to studying. You can binge watch Netflix or Amazon anytime. Time to teach.

Following are some ideas to teach remotely:

  • Teach online using any of the following or your favorite teaching platform. You can share documents, videos and work interactively on a white board. Perfect for math, or teaching grammar.

Zoom https://zoom.us   WebEx https://www.webex.com/   Google Hangout

  • Tutor using FaceTime or your cellphone. Why not? If you are working on reading comprehension, you can read before or during lesson and then discuss the reading, review answers.
  • Teach using Khan Academy https://www.khanacademy.org/teachers This is sweet. Material is already put together. You just register as a teacher and register your student. Monitor their progress and discuss material.
  • Continue to work on dialogue journals by email.

Take a look at my website page for resources that might be helpful.

And I can help. I can help create accounts with students, write up lessons, find material and cheer you on.

Cheers.
