Follow these steps and help students to create their own flashcards based on the words they need to practice:
Grab a pack of index cards and encourage your student to do the following:
Look at the vocabulary word and say the word out loud.
Write the vocabulary word on the card. Say the letters out loud as you write it.
On the other side of the card, write a brief definition or synonym. Read out loud what you wrote.
Look at the front of the card and read the vocabulary word again.
Turn the card over and read the definition again.
Close your eyes and imagine the word. Ask your tutor or study partner to spell the word and picture those letters in your mind as you say the letters.
Say the word out loud again and spell it out loud. Eyes are still closed and you are picturing the letters.
Use that vocabulary word in a sentence or write one in a notebook.
For each new vocabulary card, complete the same steps.
Only create 3-5 cards at a time or per week.
It only takes a few minutes to review words and if you do this several times a week you will begin to memorize them.
Put them in your book bag or purse. Practice when on your lunch break, or right before you go the sleep. Simply take out the cards and study them for a few minutes.
